Title: nipple water drinkers
Post by: DenisCooper on July 19, 2018, 10:23:53 pm
im thinking of implementing a nipple water drinking system for my hens. Currently I've got a ball cock water trough but its a bit of a pain to keep clean.

If I install a nipple water drinker system will the hens adapt to using it fairly quickly? They will still have access to the water in the brook that feeds the pond the ducks and geese are in.

Mine did, took a couple of weeks and I used to go in occasionally and flip the nipples a few times to get water coming out. They took notice of it after a while and now drink from them happily. In this weather, I have a large galvanised drinker I put out as well.

Yes. If you flick water on the system the drips run down to the nipple and the movement encourages them to peck.
