Title: Downfield Abbatoir, Cupar
Post by: Rosemary on July 18, 2018, 05:38:53 pm
This may be of interest to smallholders in the central belt of Scotland. We use Downfield and can highly recommend it. We haven't used the butchery service so cannot comment on that.

From Downfield:

Quote
We started doing butchery in 2016 but only in the last few months have we had a license to do mincing and meat preparations, ie burgers/sausages.

We charge £30 a lamb, plus £1/kg for mincing and £5/kg for burgers/sausages.

For Cattle / Pigs killed at Shotts

Collection from Shotts £59
Butchery £1.10/kg, min. £30/carcass
Mincing £1/kg (min. 10kg batch )
Burger/Sausage making £5/kg

All meat is vacuum packed, labelled and boxed to specification.

Tuesday is still our slaughter day but all animals must be in by lunchtime on a Monday for health inspection. We are still reasonably quiet at this time of year and a weeks notice is plenty but as we get to October through to Christmas I book up weeks that can be 3 weeks in front.
