Title: Log Saw? Any Good?
Post by: Fishyhaddock on June 21, 2018, 04:45:07 pm
Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anybody owns one of these saws and just how good they really are?

If they are any good then what make would anyone recommend for for build quality and reliability?

My back isn't what it used to be and these appear to probably take a lot of strain away as opposed to slicing with a chain saw?

Thanks in advance

Fishy

Which one do you mean? We use an electric log saw - similar to one you could run off a pto. We use it to chop pallets up - break them up first and stack the planks 4 or 5 at a time then chop. Try to keep away from nails... we find it invaluable for small branches too. It's easy ish to transport around the place where a tractor and saw wouldn't be feasible.  Quite good value - around £250. The blade is well protected until the last minute so less potential for accidents. One point against them - the last one we had the stop button stopped working and it is very difficult (we found it impossible) to find a cheap replacement.  A new switch cost half the price of a complete new saw.. so we bought a new saw, keeping the old one for spares. We get the blades sharpened at Buchan saw and tools at Mintlaw when too many nails have been hit!

We have a pto driven one and would not be without it now.
