Title: Goat Boarding
Post by: kingskrew on April 24, 2018, 11:44:57 am
Hi, I have been asked if we would consider boarding 2 pygmy goats.  I have built a shelter, a 6 ft fence with an old tree stump to climb on.  They also have a paddock (sharing with 4 alpacas) if needed.  I have no idea what to charge per month, any advice would be gratefully received.  The person who wants to board them is happy to purchase all food, hay and meds separately.  Thanks

If you only have alpacas - do you have a CPH number? You will need that for the goats to be living on your land. Also you want to make sure that the goat owner has ear tagged them and any transport forms etc are properly signed and sent off to the relevant place.

No idea what to charge though.... I would never do this.

Pygmy goats are devils for escaping....

Hi
We have 3 pigs as well so we do have the CPH no.

Why do they want their goats boarded?  Short term whilst on Hols would incur higher cost/wk  than longer term....  though cant see why they would want them boarded long term.   Think I would ensure all agreed is done in writing including a finish date (which could be re  negotiated later  if necessary).... too many people get dumped with stock that came to 'stay' for a couple of weeks!!

I'd charge a lot just to put them off, goats are lovely but your responsible for someone else's animals and should anything happen to them you would be accountable. If their willing to check them every day how will you feel about someone turning up whenever suited them to check on the goats, or spending an hour or so in the fields playing with them? Yes a few weeks as a favour, but long term no way!

Let's hope it's got its ear tags and movement records in order....
