We only have two Angoras, and shear them ourselves, I have sure clip clippers and two different sets of blades, one came with the clippers and are meant for sheep they have 20 teeth, the other set has 13 teeth, these do go through the fleece better but do tend to nick one of the goats particularly. So what do people use? We have just done them with hand shears as the blades seem to need sharpening and just wouldn't go though, they were long due to the weather being so cold so overdue to be done. Will look to buy new blades at the same time as getting the others sharpened.

You need the 20 or 23 teeth ones that curve in at the sides. The cutters and combs need to be really sharp and oil the blades frequently.
It's really easy to cut the goats badly, Their skin is very thin and lose especially around their underarms and legs. Keep the skin tight and go carefully.

Thank you, we are, on the Powys/ Shropshire borders, I will get more blades, though the ones we have have only been used a couple of times.

R.T Anthony near Leominster will know which one if you say for angoras. One cutter and one comb, the cutter you already have will probably fit fine, they do sharpening too, quick return post.
Do you know the Welsh and West angora club, worth the £10 membership for the advise available.

Three of us will be at Wonderwool as 'A Crafty Goat Club' and at the Spring Festival in the angora building doing a mohair display and have-a-go at spinning, weaving etc.

You can use dog clipers you do get wide blades now, angoras no different than a matted poodle x dog, dog clippers ligher on hands no vibration and a lot safer than sheep clippers. Again they need to be sharp and oil only on he contact part of blade slide top part then oil.with a5 clippers 7F blade suitable or can do he shorter ones 10 8.5 Take time with clppers don t force them, Aescalup clippers also do an angora goat blade. or hand shears eg jakoti ones good
