Title: Alternative to septic tank. Podtanks
Post by: Ghdp on April 08, 2018, 07:28:24 pm
We are planning on intoducing another holiday let unit on our plot and have looked at the ubiquitous shepherds’ hut. Ideally we would like it to be completely self contained and for that we would need to deal with a septic tank or its equivalent. Has anyone her had any experience of the ‘non electric waste water sewage treatment plant’ made by podtanks.
I would be very interested to hear how they got on.

Not heard of Podtanks before, but when we were building a few years ago, I seriously looked at the BioRock system which seems very similar.

Decided against it in the end, as it seemed hard to verify its effectiveness - there seemed little evidence to support some of the claims.

That is really my point. The effectiveness is undoubted - in their own adverts! If i learn more / experience more I will post.

A few years ago I was interested in this subject and was cautioned that in 2022 there would be new legislation which made even the best current solution obsolete. That was pre-brexit but please check before any investment.

That reminds me 5 or 6 years ago everyone was going to be required to register tneir septic tank ..with defra..and unless it was registered you would not be able to sell your property....a bit like EPC's.
Then about turn and it was abandoned by the government.
I live in an area where you wouldn't get planning for septic tank only sewage treatment system which are very expensive
