Title: Solar kiln for firewood
Post by: Foobar on March 06, 2018, 02:46:51 pm
Has anyone any experience of making/using solar kilns for drying firewood?

I have a load of seasoned but wet wood, and I have a load of spare IBC tanks (the cages have been used for seasoning logs) ... I keep looking at these tanks and thinking I must be able to use them for something useful - could act like mini greenhouses if I put some vents in? .... could I turn them into solar kilns? :)

Simply stack your logs   & cover with a breathable canvas they will season  well .
If you put them in plastic non breathable boxes they will sweat & grow moulds etc
I suppose you could cut the tank top & bottoms off to give a shallow three inch or so deep tray to invert them & put them on top of each log stack weighting them down against strong winds.
