our chucks in the back garden were sleeping outside of their house, i had to actually lift them up of the ground

I had two that wouldn't go in the pophole - I had to leave the door open till they were in.  When it was warm a week or two ago they all sat outside till I went and chased them in.

I just put another of my ex batts out of her misery, 2nd in 10 days - not a sign of mites anywhere but have stripped out and disinfected the shed in case.  No real symptoms, just hunched up, drinking and eating occasionally, not moving about much, then just sitting hunched in a corner at the end, but when I did the deed she was skin and bone so must have been going down hill for a while.  No mucous, coughs or sneezes.  Crop OK, didn't seem to be egg bound either.  Just a mystery. :o ???

If the birds won't go in to roost it's red mite. Don't let them back in the coop until you have sorted it or they will get literally eaten alive.
