Title: Sexed Ai
Post by: mart6 on September 14, 2017, 07:42:10 pm
Just watching Farming life
And they say a 20% of dairy farmers now use sexed semen, ups the chance of female calf from 50% to 90%
Wonder if it has worked its way through to goats yet ? or how long it will be till it does

This was discussed a little at our last goat club talk we had a vet who does AI on goats and sheep. She saidi it is very expensive to do sexed semen and not aware of in goats yet but with increasing goat numbers especially commercial you never know may be become a reality. There was a product used at the same time as ai nanny plus ? in Ireland that claims to increase chances but is one of those things unproven if works or not, vet had not heard of it and didnt think it would work.

As Talana says - it is tooo expensive to do in the (dairy) goat world at the moment. Spoke about it to guys at AB Europe at some point.
