Our house is part stone, part brick and part block - all indifferently rendered. ( I realise that isn't the way the estate agent described it!) it needs to be re rendered. We are toying with the idea of waney oak cladding for the whole building. The house is at 600 feet above sea level, south / north facing house and therefore has sun exposure on three side. We are 10 miles from the coast. Has anyone any experience of doing this and, if so, with what result.

Not with oak but bits of our house are clad with larch. At 300m we are exposed to some hard weather from the hills behind but have had no problems with it after 4 years.
The colour will change (unless you treat it), larch goes from a warmish brown to a silvery grey colour. I assume oak would do something similar.

Oak will cost you a fortune.
Larch, douglas fir would be my choice and possibly more appropriate for where you are.
