Title: I found a poultry abbatoir in Fife, Scotland

We used "The Game Cart (http://www.thegamecart.com/)" near Lindores in Fife to process a batch of meat chickens for us this week. We bought them as day olds from Craigievern Poultry in Drymen (http://craigievernpoultry.co.uk/), and raised them free range in our back garden (which has saved me from having to mow it this summer too!  :thumbsup: ).

Anyway, the folks at The Game Cart (http://www.thegamecart.com/) were really friendly and efficient. Their main business is game birds and roe deer etc. However, they will process all types of poultry too. We collected the chickens yesterday, all individually wrapped in film and looking very much like supermarket chickens.

So, I'm just leaving this here in the hope it will be useful to others too.

will they dispatch too? Couldnt see a mention of it on their website-I have a load of muscovy drakes this year that will have to go for meat. struggling to find anyone to do it further south (we have no local gamekeeper this year).

Hi Lord Flynn,  Yes they will.

I took them a trailer full of live birds, and collected them wrapped in clingfilm the next day. All they asked was that they were given no food on the day of delivery, to make sure their guts were empty.

DaveC - I just spotted your reply too. I'm afraid I didn't keep good records of this batch. I think they went away at about 14 weeks, and came back around the 2.5kg mark.

These were Sassos, which we have not had before. What I will say (perhaps controversially?) is that they ate significantly less per head than the hubbards we had last time, and also IMHO tasted far superior.

That's really interesting- I've never done meat birds because I didn't fancy the plucking etc, but that would solve a lot of problems (like how to dispose of guts etc).

Can I ask how much it cost?
