Title: Drake induced damage
Post by: northfifeduckling on May 28, 2017, 10:08:31 pm
This is the second time (at least I know of) that a drake severly damaged one of the ducks (one previously was drowned), half of her cheek has been sliced off from her neck onwards. Her eye is fine and I'll separate her tonight, probably take her to the vet tomorrow morning. I'm really losing it with the boy, he has 14 girls to play with, why that aggression? Bloody design fault.  >:(

I've seen that type of damage when there are several adolescent males which compete for the females, but not when there's just a single male.  Time to get a replacement?

Is he a Muscovy? I had to cull Muscovies on 2 separate occasions, they just won't let up. I think its when the duck really doesn't want to - but he's insisting.. I've never had any problems with other breeds.. Cull him

Aggression, to other birds or to humans, always gets worse, in my experience.  I'd cull him today.
