I bought one of those anti crow collars for my new cock.
As we are in the city I was afraid someone might not be happy hearing him crow every morning especially in the summer as it's really early. Although our neighbours said they love it lol
I must say it was a very good purchase! He can still talk to hens and crow but it's very very muted. Fantastic for everyone who wants to breed chickens but has close neighbours who don't like cockerel crowing.

Not a fan of inhibiting what is a very integral part of an animals behaviour.
-
I know but sometimes people get fined for noise pollution - happened to my mate. He had to get rid of his cockerel.
My one can crow and do everything else except for when he crows it's not louder than hens

Who's the fool?
Looks like you're the one who has never heard of cockerel collars.
-
They're quite real, just a webbing collar that goes round the neck.

:o
Really! Well you learn something new everyday!
-
You can get 'chicken diapers' as well, if you have a pet hen wandering about in your house.
-
So how does it work?
-
I think it goes on tight to their neck, it says it has very rough edges so I'm guessing causes pain if the bird try's to crow.
-
I think they just stop the cockerel taking such a deep breath, sp can't crow so loudly. They shouldn't hurt him.
-
Got to be better than getting his neck wrung :hungry:
-
I thought it was going to be a device to deter corvids.

So did I... but hey something new every day!

There are a few youtube clips of the collar, including this:

The cockerel doesn't appear to be in pain, but I would hate to do that to a creature. I would rather not use such a device, but then I'm way out in the country with no complainants.

No no
It says it DOES NOT have rough edges. Very smooth in fact.
It's just a piece of velcro which goes around cocks neck. It doesn't affect his breathing or eating. But when he tries to crow he stretches his neck the collar stops him from stretching fully therefore the voice is not as loud as it normally would be.
