Title: Hi to you all!
Post by: Antioch on February 15, 2017, 11:54:49 am
Hi everyone,
well I finally have it, a piece of land to call my own (ok our own......I suppose I have to share it with the o/h!)
we've got just under 7 acres of mixed pasture and orchard (orchard is very old, unloved and about 3 acres), in sunny (aka water logged) Norfolk.
So far we've planted about 300 native trees/shrubs/hedging and started to tame the orchard (who knew there are so many ways to stack logs to dry!?)
Fencing is the next big expense for the animals......mostly for rearing for the table, with the exception of my 4 legged money eating equine chum!!
We also have about half an acre at home, but between the chickens, ducks, dogs, fruit bushes and trees, I have about a 10x10 garden!!
I hope I can help as much as be helped on here!!

Hello and welcome to TAS

Neglected orchards are a great source of wildlife. Our had woodpeckers, slow worms, toads, stag beetles and grass snakes. Not to mention armfuls of mistletoe. Renovating it has been a bit of a tricky balance between improving the trees without driving out all these fascinating creatures. It has been slower than expected, but very rewarding. :)
