One of our ewes has lost an ear tag.
Remember reading somewhere when you replace them it has to be red, is this correct ?
If so where do l get the red one from ? :sheep:

You can use red tags, in which case you replace both. All of the suppliers will do red replacement tags. However, if you only need one tag, you can also get a 'replica' tag which will be exactly the same as the one she's lost.
If you've got a new-ish movement book, there's a flowchart just inside the front cover that explains it all.

If the ewe is home bred then you can just re-tag with a new number from your own tags. It's only if she was born elsewhere that she needs reds or replicas.

YOU can use replica tags on home bred sheep as well . As said red replacement pairs are for sheep that have been purchased or use a replica tag to replace the missing one . As said for sheep born on your holding then either a replica tag or replace with a pair of your own tags , and remember to record in your holding register missing tag number and new tag number even if you use a replica and thus both numbers are the same . :farmer:

how wrong is it to replace tags on home-grown sheep with red tags - since matching and much prettier? :innocent:
