Just thought would share my experience arranging a mortgage to carry out my barn conversion, i have a property with a number of outbuilding and managed to get planning permission to convert one of the outbuilding to groom accommodation.
I went to the bank who i have my property as was looking to remortgage and release equity on my current property but was refused. Was very shocked and a little disappointed as have a good profile etc. I did some research and found a mortgage broker who offered some thing called a self build mortgage (these are the guys i used http://www.firstchoicefinance.co.uk/Index.asp?T=Self%20Build%20Mortgages (http://www.firstchoicefinance.co.uk/Index.asp?T=Self%20Build%20Mortgages)) this is something i have never heard off before, but is basically a mortgage that is released in chunks as the building work is completed. Everything has gone through and had my first trench of money. Would love to hear any one else`s story on arranging the money to carry out a barn conversion.
While i`m at it also need a roofer for the spring if anyone knows of anyone i am based in stafford.
