Title: Breed of Chickens
Post by: Hilbillie on July 22, 2008, 05:08:06 pm
This is a picture of Flirty and Girty, two of my hens.  Can anyone tell me which breed they are?

Hopefully this is a clearer picture of Flirty.  Girty doesnt have as much brown as Flirty and then there's Flo who is predominantly black with a tiny brown throat but with gorgeous green and purple tints on her back.  All three have pale legs but Red, who is a lovely reddy brown colour all over, has yellow legs!  I'm pretty sure Hetty and Betty are Light Sussex, they are white with black necklace and tail feathers and are much bigger than the rest.

I had three exactly like those - father was a rhode island red, mother was a black rock/sussex cross.  They have such lovely markings - I loved them. Unfortuantely rehomed when I moved, so need to find more

They look awefully like red rocks or black rocks! Both of these breeds can turn out looking like that! They are a sexlink cross so the coluring can vary greatly from bird to bird! Very nice birds in general and great layers! :)
