Title: worming 'disaster'
Post by: anotherbuster on September 03, 2016, 09:34:53 am
First time today worming weaners by injecting. Unfortunately, due to my incompetence, they got mixed up again before I had done all five of them. Now I'm not sure which I've done. Can I start again and maybe double dose some or should I wait a while and start again. If so any idea how long?

I suggest finding out (from your supplier or the manufacturer) what they recommend.  Have you seen evidence of worms in their droppings or have they been on "dirty" ground that's had older pigs on it recently?  Was the sow wormed before farrowing and put on clean ground?  A dot of coloured sheep market may help next time.

The withdrawal period will be marked on the bottle/box - once this is passed it'll be fine to re-worm.
We used to move them from one pen to another after they'd been jabbed - this worked better on our dark pigs than the marker spray we had  ;)

Definitely check the manufactures instructions/warnings.

Would it be possible to feed natural dewormers until the withdrawal period has finished?

we used to worm and then give natural wormers to keep future burdens down a bit. We used wormwood and it worked very well. We get it from the herbal apothecary in large silver bags, just a nice handful in a bucket of food for them, once a day, should work fine.
