Title: Pigs gone - what to plant?
Post by: NewToThis on August 23, 2016, 08:58:02 am
My two gorgeous tamworths have just gone to the abattoir, so I am now wondering what to do with the land between now and getting the next pair in spring?

I guess I am looking to plant something that could be used for forage next year? I clover/grass was first idea, but was wondering maybe something else might be better?

If you're planning to put next year's weaners on the same ground then bear in mind that eating a lot of greenery will fill them up and depress their uptake of protein from bagged feed and could lead to impaction of the gut.  If you can restrict them to a strip grazing scheme with electric fencing something like stubble turnips could provide food both above and below ground.
