My goats managed to get into my garden yesterday and one of the little pygmys has eaten something she shouldn't....most probably a shiny leaf bush.
She seemed unhappy last night and I thought she'd be fine this morning but she's not. It looks like she has been throwing up the contents of her stomach and she seems to have belly ache. I'm waiting for the vet to call back but they aren't the best for goat health.....
Any advice gratefully received!
Tried some honey water but she's not interested at all.

:'(
Vomiting usually means rhododendron.
Give her coffee and tlc, but it is very highly fatal.
Hope she hasn't eaten much and she pulls through.
-
Defo not rhododendron as have non. Have just dosed her up with meds so fingers crossed she pulls through.
Coffee? Black? Will try that

Sorry to hear this about your goat....not good news , could be any number of things that goats shouldn't eat and admittedly rhododendron is usually the culprit but privet, azalea, laurel and numerous others. Hope all goes well but vomiting, usually projectile is not a good sign in anyone's books do hope she only ate a very small amount

Hope she'll be alright. What a worry!

How are things? :fc:

She's been dosed up but it's more a case of easing her discomfort. She's no worse...maybe slightly better. She's still in the corner of the yard sitting quietly by herself.
Will see what morning brings

fingers crossed then , let us know in the morning :fc: :fc:

How is She?
I was told Skimmia gives same symptoms.
-
She's a little brighter, nibbling corn but still very weak and wobbly

Oh dear poor little goat, they really have no idea of things that aren't good for them have they? My trio managed to get into the rhubarb patch a couple of weeks ago and ate all the leaves, they suffered no ill effects but I came close to a nervous breakdown!
-
Well. This morning she's skipping around as happy as anything with the others :relief:
They are resilient little things
-
Wow! Well done you on your nursing skills!
-
I'm happy to hear that!

Great News  ;D

Had a goat that did this, ate Piris Japonica. Was pretty sure she was going to die as she was so poorly and weak. Vomiting, unable to stand, heart rate in her boots and then 24 hours later she's bouncing around like nothing happened!

Pieris? Forest Flame ?
I think that's the one I was thinking of when I put Skimmia, got both and I get mixed up :-).

Ooooo, just googled that plant and I'm sure we have one in said garden
That might well have been the culprit ! Will check in the morning but defo have/had one with red and green leaves....

Can we have a photo? Of the plant. And the goat if she is looking better today of course.
