Title: Bee stings
Post by: Louise Gaunt on July 15, 2016, 11:26:21 am
a question not directly related to bee keeping, but as keepers you may know the answer. 9 days ago I was trimming some shrubs and got stung on my forehead by what I assumed was a bee, as closer inspection of the surrounding vegetation revealed lots of bees in the vicinity. I took an oral antihistamine straight away, and have been putting antihistamine cream on the sting site. There is still a red, non painful mark on my skin, which does not seem to be settling. Is this usual? I have also used some steroid plus antibiotic ointment I had for infected excema. This is not serious enough to trouble my GP about, just wondering if other people have had similar experiences?

9 days does seem to be a long time but I have found a week is not uncommon. So if you don't think its serious enough for the docs then give it a few more days with antihistamine tabs. If it gets worse or still shows no signs of recovery then I would definitely get it looked at.
