We would love to have a smallholding BUT we live in the city in a rented house and have no money to buy or rent one.The only bit of land we have at the moment is a allotment .Does anyone know how i can work upto getting our own smallholding....some advice would be great please....

Have you tried the 'Landshare' project run by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall? Somebody might have a couple of acres they're willing to give you in return for produce?

What about a community project? I suppose it depends on your mindset, though. THere's one sometimes advertises in the Garden Organic magazine - unfortunately, I ditched the back copies during a recent clear out, but Garden Organic might be able to help track it down. I think it's a big house with apartments, sharing garden / smallholding etc. A sort of commune without the tiedye  :)
