Title: Seriously yummy lab pups
Post by: Jukes Mum on July 05, 2016, 12:52:54 pm
Despite wanting to keep them all, I have one bitch and one dog pup available from cracking litter of black Labradors born 23rd May.
Dam- Joyce’s Special Choice- hips 5-5 elbows- 0 eyes pass prcd-PRA and CNM clear. By FTW Garronpoint Ross of Drakeshead (FTCH Willowwyck Ruff x Garronpoint Little Dove) fantastic bitch used for beating, picking up, walked up shoot etc fast stylish yet steady.
Sire – FTAW Drakeshead Alfie  (FTCH Waterford Featherman x  FTW Denmark Drakeshead virgo ) hips 3-5  elbows- 0 eyes pass prcd-PRA and CNM clear
Pups will be hereditary prcd-PRA and CNM clear, KC Registered, vet checked wormed and microchipped
Working/competition homes preferred.
The pups have been brought up in the house and exposed to various noises during their first 6 weeks (vacuum, washing machine, gunshot, hammering, drilling, TV etc), been handled by young children from 3 weeks old, been for short car rides (end of the road and back weekly for 4 weeks) and are constantly exposed to things they may meet in later life (different floor surfaces, people with beards, high viz clothing, umbrellas etc) and met and socialised with the other household dogs, cat, sheep and chickens. They have now been moved from the house up to the kennel where they are clean throughout the day (let out every 3 hours for an hour play) and toileting in the run at night. They are still in and out of the house as well. We have done our best to give these pups the best start and are now looking to find the best possible homes for them.

They are utterly umptious! I'm going to be heartbroken to say bye to any of them. This is the little girl we are keeping, looking really rather tiny in their kennels!

Oh my god, cuteness overload. That second one reminds me of my Black Lab when he was a pup, it was all about the ball!

The first of these little guys is going this weekend. Very mixed feelings. I know that they need more one on one attention now, but I don't want to see them go. We have really checked out the new owners and are confident that they will have the happiest lives possible, but it's still difficult. They have been my entire life for the last 8 weeks!
The last two are still for sale, which is getting worrying now as they will be 8 weeks old this weekend. I am not sure what is putting people off this litter, their parents are fully health tested, and well bred, or if its just the wrong time of year (holiday season)?
It is frustrating as we had so many enquiries before we had her mated and 3 of these have given back word (without seeing the pups) due to 1) holiday, 2) too recently lost another dog 3) bad back/not the right time to take a pup on.
While I'd be more than happy to keep 3 pups, we also have a spaniel pup from my stud dog coming next week and I don't think we can dedicate the one-on-one time that each pup will need as well as training/exercising four adult dogs.
We have 2 people coming to see the pups at the weekend, so hopefully I am worrying about nothing.

Could you send me a pm giving price for the pups and your approximate location. They sound lovely. Father lost one of his working labs not long ago and will give him details. He was talking yesterday about a new pup.

Thanks Doganjo x A couple came today to collect a pup and brought their local 'gundog expert' to vet us. I was very proud that he said it was the best litter he'd seen and they were a credit to us. Still no good if no one comes to see them though!

All sold- phew! We were rather picky and said no to a few people - mainly because they worked full time and we couldn't see how it could work. We are really pleased with all the homes we have found for them and know they are all going to have the great lives they deserve.
We had planned on keeping one bitch and also getting a bitch pup back from a litter my little spaniel had sired. I visited the spaniel pups this week and while they are simply gorgeous, I just didn't love them the way I love our babies who we have watched from first breaths to first steps etc. When I got home that night, my little lab pup known as "Green" (wears the green collar!) looked at me in the way he has done since the day his little eyes opened and I realised I would be daft to sell him and bring in a pup from elsewhere.
Needles to say "Green" is staying :-) He has not left my side since I told him and he's now called Edward.
Now the fun begins! He says he might start a blog to share his adventures in this big new world!

#Jukes Mum - what a great idea!  I look forward to that!  :excited:

Wish my Missy had started a blog when she took over MY life!  I keep telling myself that at 72 and with an immune system disorder (which I keep hoping they'll get sorted) I shouldn't even consider having another litter, let alone keep a pup, but .........................  watch this space!  At least the hips are all Ok and they're both healthy so we'll see what happens - will my head or my heart rule?  :innocent:

In the meantime - photos of Edward? (A nice strong, proud name for a Labrador!

Title: Re: Seriously yummy lab pups- PUPDATE!
Post by: Jukes Mum on August 23, 2016, 09:40:57 am
PUPDATE!
The pups are fully vaccinated now so are able to get out and about more.
They have had their first swimming lessons, helped out with the sheep etc. On Sunday we took them into Malton and had a pub lunch! While this was all in the name of socialisation, we realised that we had not been out for lunch together for 4 years! Yesterday we took them into Helmsley to see the sights and sounds there and bumped into some friends who took us for a coffee. I've never been so well socialised  :roflanim:
Bertie will be going to his new home this week (his new people have been up at their estate in Scotland!). It will be sad to see him go, but it will be much easier to spend one-on-one time with the two we are keeping.
Edward has been sleeping in the house for the last few nights. He's been clean and quiet all night. I didn't get up until 7.30am yesterday and he was still out for the count!
I have high hopes for this little chap.
Edward with his mummy. He's growing too fast!!

Edward's first camping trip!
I took Edward and one of the spaniels to Cheshire Game Fair this weekend.
The little chap didn't make a peep in the car all the way there (2 1/2 hours). He met loads of friendly dogs and lots of other pups his age (3 other lab pups and 3 springers by my stud dog). Everyone wanted to snuffle him so this was all fantastic for his socialisation. He saw chainsaw demos, steam engines, the hunt hounds, motorbike displays, people in wheel chairs, kids in push chairs. You couldn't have asked for a better experience for him. The only thing that phased him was a plastic water carrier which he gave a good telling off!
He slept next to me in the tent and woke me up 5 times on Saturday night- 4 times sleeptalking and once rolling around on his back giggling! I had to wake him up at 7 in the morning though to take him out. Really proud of the little chap.

He sounds adorable and rather like our greyhound when we go camping! She sleep talks, snores, twitches, wiggles and usually hogs the whole air bed despite her own massive bed being next to ours!

Edward's adventures continued this weekend. He came with us to Chatsworth House and had another very exciting day. He saw fairground rides, met an enormous St Bernard puppy, got fussed by everyone and sat to watch the team gundog working test. To top his day off we sat and watched the Red Arrows. Down at the gundog scurry events we met up with some of his family and had Edward, his mum, his sister, his grandmother, his aunt and this uncle. Wish we'd taken a family photo!

Edward update. The little chap's 'play training' is coming on leaps and bounds. He's ever so easy, he is walking to heel on and off his lead, sitting and recalling to the  whistle and retrieving nicely. He did wee in the kitchen this week though. My fella had him in the kitchen with him and when I asked him when he had last wee'd he didn't know so entirely his fault, not the pup's  ::)
Yesterday he had his first trip to the beach which he loved. He was in and out of the sea with the others but didn't go deep enough to swim.
Loving this little fella ever so much!

He's gorgeous  ;D and sounds like a really clued up pup.

Can I ask about your pack? How is it keeping 7 dogs? Do they all live together in harmony or do you have separate runs for them? The most I've had was 3 dogs at one time (retrievers) and we had 2 GSD's after these but we're considering going to 4 or 5 this time, from our current one (GSD) so I'm trying to figure out if there is much difference needed in housing arrangements or which sex to keep if this helps things go more smoothly. Any tips/pointers much appreciated  :)

Beautiful Labs, and Edward is adorable.  Best of luck with him, and it is nice to hear of a breeder going to so much trouble in raising their litter and vetting potential new owners.
My working line German Shepherd is to be used at stud (by a vet in Denmark!) next year and she also goes above and beyond the usual to ensure her pups are well raised, well socialised and ready for lives in their carefully vetted new homes.  I am looking forward to the adventure (and will of course be having a pup myself).

We actually have 6 dogs. One of ours isn't in the picture (she strongly believes that the camera will steal her soul!) and two in the picture were just in for boarding/training.
We have 3 dogs and 3 bitches. To date they have lived very happily together. Two of them are house dogs and the others are kennelled at night. During the day they are all together all day, walked together, worked together or separately and fed together. Obviously they have to be separated when a bitch is in season. We have never had any fall-outs, but we do have a pending dominance issue with the 2 older entire males (Murphy and Juke). Normally one (Juke) is very submissive to the other (Murphy), weazeling round him, licking his face, rolling over- all very 'puppyish', but if I take the submissive one out alone, we have really rigid posturing from them both when I bring him home. The submissive one will eventually snap out of it, weasel around a bit and harmony is restored. Since we had the pups, the rigid posturing has increased. Its fascinating if you are into dog psychology. Basically, Juke feels the need to posture at the male puppy. If Murphy sees Juke posturing, he takes it personally and will posture around Juke. Juke can't submit as he is posturing at the puppy; que viscous circle. Fortunately this doesn't last long as the puppy has usually bumbled off by this point and Juke can shake himself off and submit to Murphy. So as I've said, no fall-outs to date, but it could happen. I guess we are lucky to have very dominant and very submissive types. I think if you were unfortunate enough to have two alike, you could have more problems. We are also lucky that, with the exception of the litter of pups who have rocked the boat a bit, we can generally bring any other dogs into our pack and know everyone will be fine after 2 minutes of grumbling, submitting etc.
I couldn't say keeping just bitches, or just dogs would be better, because ultimately it is down to individuals. If you are looking to get more, I would strongly advise to do it gradually and assess personalities.

Thank you. It has been an absolute joy and our theory was that if you choose to bring these little lives into the world, you are obliged to do the best by them.

Edward has his first day at school yesterday!
I took him to a group gundog training session in North Yorkshire. He was a little star a didn't take his eyes off me other than to say hello so a little chocolate cocker he was sure he knew! He did nearly 40 minutes of the class, which is a lot longer than I would ever train him for normally. I only took him along to see what the class did and do a bit more socialisation but I didn't get chance to explain that before being put in line with the rest of the class. I will take him again in another month and until then, I'm going to keep working on the basics and not be tempted to rush into new things! It is so tempting as he picks things up so quickly, but I know that I'll regret it if a spoil him by rushing him

Small Edward is growing up so fast. His gundog training is coming on leaps and bounds and it's soooo tempting to "just see if he can........" but so far I am resisting and sticking firmly to perfecting the basics before moving on. I have a strong feeling that this little dog is too good for me and could go much further someone better. Unfortunately he is stuck with me though as I am head-over-heels in love with him  I just have to hope I can do him proud.

Here he is at his 3rd puppy class this Sunday. He's the black lab pup  :roflanim: Sorry- far left.

He really has grown. He's 10 months old today so I'm really hoping he's nearly finished!
He is such a lovely little chap, really nice to be around and loves his training. Now that his basics are established, I have upped the ante and everything is falling nicely into place :-) So far I have managed not to spoil him, but I do know how easily it can be done by just seeing if he could ......
The weekend before last I took him to a country fair and he got to meet up with three other pups his age which we had camped with last autumn. He's rather small compared to them! He is a bit of a mummy's boy though. He'll play with other dogs, but is not interested in other people at all.
How's your pup doing WBF?

Yesterday was the puppies first birthday! I can't believe it was a whole year ago since they were less that 400g little wrigglers!
I have emailed all of the pups owners to wish them all a happy birthday and see how they are getting on. All have replied with some lovely updates and photos. So nice to know that they are all getting on so well.
I took the day off work yesterday and we took our 2 pups to the beach for the day for a birthday treat. They had a fab time, despite poor Pip drinking half the ocean and suffering the consequences shortly after!
Edward has started doing some working tests and I'm pleased with his progress. So far he has had a first, a third and a COM (Certificate Of Merit) and has run well in two novice tests as well. He is still an absolute joy to own and train. I don't think I have ever come accross such an honest little dog and I'm looking forward to many years working alongside him.
His sister is another matter! She's a little sweetie too, but she is very independant and rather sneaky. If you explain to her (in the nicest possible way of course ;-)!) not to do something, like eating manure off the veggie patch, she will tell you how very sorry she is, and assure you that it was a simple mistake and will certainly not happen again. Then if you watch her out the kitchen window, she will wait a while watching the door, then sneak back to the veg patch, look over her shoulder to check no-one is looking and then resume her manurey feast. Upon opeing the door, she will sit and subtly spit out a mouthful of the offending substance and look at you with a look of "what?". Little modame!
