Title: aggressive cockerel

I have 5 Light Sussex hens and a cockerel. Everything has been fine until a couple of weeks ago. The cockerel has never gone for me but he has started going for my wife and 16 year old daughter. They want rid of him. Is there anything I can do to stop this aggressive behaviour towards females?

Same thing happened to a friend of mine (and their housesitter) both female - cockerel was fine with her husband. Cockerel is now and ex- cockerel.

Hi, the way to do it is for the person who is being attacked to attempt to grab the cockerels comb and sharply pull it to the floor holding it there for a few seconds.Basically pinning the bird to the floor. The cockerel will flap but eventually admit defeat. Then simply let go and it will be on its way. I have tried this on 2 of my own and it works. Good luck.

I had one which attacked the postman and his van. He also went for any vehicle coming down the drive. To stop him attacking me I also pinned him to the ground and it worked fine. Unfortunately didn't worrk with cars and the inevitable happened one day. His son now rules the roost..
