Title: Newbie crofter
Post by: Midgie on June 25, 2016, 09:21:37 pm
Hi , my name is Kate and I have just taken over the family croft up on the Western Isles , it's been 30yrs since I've done any crofting / small holding so feel like a complete newbie ! In the past I had 2 milking goats of my own and then helped out with the families blackface sheep , hens and ducks. So far we've got 3 hens and 5 runner ducklings ( donated by a "kind" friend ! ) . Planning on pigs next year to churn the ground up but in the long term I'd like some native breed sheep .
Anybody else up on the Western Isles ?

Hello and welcome from a crofter near Inverness.  Where in the isles are you?

I'm always happy to try and help answer questions having been a newby crofter for about the last 4 years.

Hello    Another crofter here, but on the north coast of Sutherland.  I had a week's holiday on Lewis and Harris a couple of years ago, absolutely loved it, beautiful, beautiful place.
