Title: Worming hens
Post by: Ghdp on May 02, 2016, 07:57:00 pm
Sorry if this has been posted before. I have bought some hen food duly pre laced with worming stuff (Marriages) and understand that the hens should not be given anything else to eat for seven days. My query is this; do i have to restrict them to their run for seven days as they forage all day in the fields normally. My guess is that I should keep them in but the staff at the retailers said free ranging would be ok if they had access to the Marriages pellets.
That would be great if true??

I would still let them free range just as long as their main food source is the pellets.
Just wormed mine and let them free range as normal, it worked fine.

Great. Then I will have much happier hens. Thanks

Yes - same as dr-poultry. We use marriages and have always done it that way.

We make sure the feeders are full when the hens go in at night, so they can stuff themselves with the wormer feed before they go out in the morning.  Seems to work.
