Title: Ram dilemma?
Post by: dixie on March 29, 2016, 07:46:07 pm
Hi everyone, been a long time since I've been here   I have a dilemma on what to do with my ram, previous years I've hired one, but bought my own the year before last, the ewes are about to lamb and I'd like him out of the way ( he is a bit of a head butta), last year I had a wether to keep him company, but haven't now, I do have a 9 year old ewe and a young ewe whom I didn't want to go to him as one was old and very thin, always been thin! The other was tiny, can I put him in with them? How big a chance is there that'll he will mate them and succeed? Or is it such a tiny chance that they'll take? Any suggestions gratefully received  ;D

It's unlikely, whatever the breed of your ram, but I wouldn't take the risk with ewes you really don't want to get in lamb.
Others may advise differently.............

A head-butting tup has only got one kind of journey round here.... if h is a big beltex you should get almost decent money for him in the cull mart.
