Title: Weird, huh?
Post by: pgkevet on December 10, 2015, 03:18:21 pm
I noticed that the buds on my blackcurrants are more advanced than i'd expect... and then saw the rhubarb has just sprouted a few small leaves... The peach tree still has all it's leaves..the only deciduous in my plot to have kept them.

I think it may be to do with wet warmish weather, the weather has been fluctuating a lot recently. Only a few weeks ago I saw little birds tweeting and building their nests and then the storms rolled in, poor things. I would be careful though for frost and stuff. Do you cover the bushes after you have pruned them for the winter?

I have wild primroses in bloom here in the Marches.  I ate a wild strawberry yesterday - not the best I've ever tasted but still.....

I have one bush of blackthorn and a blackberry in bloom, both in a very sheltered position. This is not the first time they have boomed in winter!

The problem with everything blooming on the trees and bushes now is that they have put a lot of energy into it and a shock like a sudden cold hard frost could set them back next year.

Ah well, nothing we can do about it, we have to take what's sent weather wise. All comes well in the end.
