Title: Converting inches? To volume
Post by: Penninehillbilly on December 03, 2015, 05:52:18 pm
Hi
I need to convert the volume of a container (could empty it but it's got fish in it), into litres, any idea of a formula?
Box is 13" x 20 x 8, it's a temporary home for some goldfish and I need a suitably sized pump and filter. Water is the 8"deep so another inch or so eventually. I make that 2080 cubic inches, or
32,500 cubic centimetres,  now my head is spinning, i'm sure it should be simple but I can't see it ::)
Hope someone can advise ?

I agree with your 2080 cu in.  Not sure where you get the 32,500 ccs.  One inch is 2.54 cm, so 1 cubic inch is 16.4 ccs, making 2080 cu inches equal to 34,085 ccs.

1cc = 1ml.  1 litre = 1000ml.

Therefore your tank at 8" deep is holding 34.085 litres.  Another 1" depth would add approx. 4.26 litres.  (1/8 of 34.085.)

Does that help?

Thanks Sally
I converted inches to centimetres
32.5 x 50 x 20

Holds more than I thought  :)

Penninehillbilly, whenever you need to convert volume to litres easiest way is to measure in centimetres then use the 1000cm3 equals 1litre to convert.
