Title: Best way to feed hay to pigs
Post by: Buffy the eggs layer on November 19, 2015, 01:22:58 pm
Hi,

I am currently feeding the odd slice of hay to my pigs by putting it in a v shaped hay feeder resting on the floor of their shelter. But on a fine day like today they dont go into their shelter until dusk.

I want to avoid it getting sopping wet or trampled about.

Has anyone discovered a better way to feed hay to pigs?

Mine live for the big round bales in the winter. I just dump them in the pens and unwrap and they proceed to pull them apart and make a giant sleeping/ eating island. Won't entertain their houses when they have them even in the rain. It does get all skanky eventually but they still eat it right down to nothing!

We use 4ft hay racks that hang over the gate: http://www.fimber-texels.co.uk/mtl/ (http://www.fimber-texels.co.uk/mtl/)

We use cable ties to stop them being lifted off the gate, you also need to make sure you've got sold gates posts as they become handy scratch posts too!
