Title: Genetics lesson please
Post by: MiriMaran on April 04, 2010, 08:54:54 pm
Could somebody please give me an idiot proof simpleton poultry genetices lesson.

If we bred Copper Blue Maran Cock and Copper Blue Maran hen will the offspring only lay blue eggs or will there only be a percentage that will?

If we cross a Cuckoo Maran Cock with a Copper Black Maran will the offspring definitely lay dark eggs?  I think we did this cross last year and ended up with a beautiful hen that looks like a bluebelle, but what is the parentage of Bluebelles?

Our hen lays beautiful dark eggs.  Could we breed her with Dad or is that a complete no no?

Any help would be great.

you can get away with single cross in poultry..... just check for genetic issues, re bent toes etc. if this occured do not continue the cross. She can still happily run with the cock, just eat the eggs
