Hi all
I'm making a move from Scottish Borders to Sussex with 2 sheep. I don't currently have suitable transport. Looking for advice about the best way to do this. I don't think i know anyone locally to borrow from.
Any thoughts folks? Knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Special rules for transporting livestock long distances - may have to engage a specialist carrier. Ask your local animal health office, maybe?

if they're pet sheep - or at least not part of a commercial enterprise the rules are more relaxed I think - at least they were when I moved from suffolk to wales in 2012 - I asked AH at the time and they pointed me to the relevant paragraph in the text of the transport rules, so I could print it out in case anyone official asked during the journey.
as it panned out my two shetlands travelled in the back of the landrover that was pulling the horsebox with the pony.

the last sentence of the 2nd paragraph on the 1st page:-
Advice for transporters of sheep A new EU Regulation for transporting animals applies from 5 January 2007.
If you transport animals you should make sure you know about the new rules and procedures that affect you. These rules are intended to improve the welfare of animals during transport. The rules came into force on 5 January 2007 and apply to anyone transporting live vertebrate animals in connection with an economic activity.

Yes the regs specifically exclude animals not used in an economic activity however they are worth going through as it gives a good idea of what is regarded as acceptable for animal welfare, e.g journey times, rest/ watering etc. if you can make the journey in less than 8 hours in a reasonable livestock trailer should be fine.

try asking about locally, plenty of tup breeders moving around at the moment down to the big sales eg worcester, lanark, carlise etc. you may well be able to catch a lift.

just make sure they are OK on the way - you will do a better job than the law can do.

My dad did that exact journey last week, what a shame. It was a one off, though. If you need to use a haulier, I would highly recommend Alastair Grey (Burns Haulage).

Was at a ram sale last week. . . .. . bloke pulled up in a twin cab pick up to collect his ram. . . . no trailer, no back cover. . . . .
Ram was hobbled a little and strapped into the seat belts on the back seat!
I asked. . . . do you have far to go? Only 180 miles he replied. And off he went.
