So I tried what everyone said, thanks kimbo :) and put some really good pics on preloved I had a response today. Apparently this guy runs an animal rescue centre and would really like them, the thing is I would have to deliver them and he is about 25 or so miles away. Should I do it or wait for someone else to come along?

You hear of some people who need animals rescued because they can't keep them anymore: through ill health, job loss or something, but aren't these two just 'a bit inconvenient' for you?
I'd hold out and see if anyone else wants them. But hey, what do I know!? maybe the guy has been after two laying hens for ages? :chook:

Yea I think I will hold out a bit more. He just said he could take em off my hands if I liked. Thing is he wants em for free and I am not giving them away. I am giving the ad a month if they're not sold before then, then i will book them in at my local poultry mart, which is about a month away. I dont fancy the traveling, i would rather a buyer picked em up, am watching an ad on preloved atm which is in pembs, so I'll email them and see.....

No they're not rescue home material. They're a little inconvenience to the other hens and as I have nowhere else to put them since their house got trashed I think it would be better to let them go as they're being rather bossy. Thing is I dont want to give them away as they're still very prolific layers. £10 for the pair is resonable ain't it?

£10 for the pair is more than reasonable. You should wait if you can, that guy sounds like he's just trying it on.

Maybe, but I hate travelling so I think I will wait and see if anything else turns up, if not then I'll send em off for mart. The reason I kept them on was because I wanted to use them as broodies for the faverolles, however they don't seem to be going broody anymore. :(

Bit too late now, but in spring you can encourage a hen to go broody if you shut her overnight on eggs in a dark broody coop. I let them out for the day, then catch again at night and repete. It's worked within four nights 3 out of 4 times. Didn't work with a leg bar hen (guess they're light birds, but she kept clucking like she wanted to sit). but worked with a marrans, a buff and light Sussex.

Don't forget to renew your Preloved advert ( if you still have them advertised on there) every day so it stays at or near the top of the listings.

Here in Wales it's miles away from anywhere, I considered buying them but didn't respond as I cannot see me getting down there.............good luck with the sale.

You might also look if your local town or village has an email Swap Shop or similar list or a Facebook Buy/Sell/Wanted group. For two hens that are good layers it seems very likely you have a neighbour with a back garden who will want them. Likewise if your veterinarian has a board up at their office that people can put animal ads on.

I have a smallholders group on FB, so i will try and sell em there. Thanks for the kind comments guys I really appreciate it. :)
