Title: Fumeing!!!!!advice needed before I blow my top!!
Post by: sandy on March 10, 2010, 10:03:57 am
Just want some advice on what to do. I switched to Unicom phone from BT phone but still have BT broadband, now I seem to be paying for 2 lot's of phone calls and the explanations are so complex and different. BT say I now have to turn off my internet when I make phone calls otherwise they will go through the broadband and be charged!! dose anyone know why? I have a BT h ome hub and although I felt the bills were high, now I still get the high bills pluss a monthly one from Unicom?? I have just asked Unicome to cancell the service and they want to charge me a percentage for the rest of the contract period, 3 years!! so now I am throwing money away and as well as me being angry, my OH is very angry with me for taking this service up!! H.E.L.P!!!!!

i think you would be paying to use the BT line as well as income ...you would use BT for internet a BT line and the services off income  .Whit iv done is get a simplicity Sim card 900 minutes full inter net and not use BT for ENEy think no line rental no payment just 22 pound 02 each month all the best ...PS i bet you're lockt into a long contract with each

THanks, that sounds good, we are not locked into BT broadband, are you just on mobile then? I must be thick as I cannot understand all this tech stuff, just want to use the internet and phone and pay for what I use and not get ripped off or tied in :)

Sandy, I was there, don't you remember the chap said to ditch BT broadband as soon as possioble, as I did too.  Unicom charge you rental which includes calls so instead of asking them to cancel why don't you ask them, to sort it out with BT - they should have done that when they took over your line.  You should not be paying twice for the same thing.  If Steve is angry tell him Unicom have to sort it out and that this applies to any new supplier.  it is normal for a canecllation charge to be made if you cancel within the fixed contract term.

I researched a lot of braodband providers,Unicom were far too expensive, I still may change from BT but they were relitivly good and we wanted no disruption on the broadband, to change over we need about 2 weeks without broadband, may be sooner, may not. My issue was I distincly remember him saying the move owuld be easy and no double bills and yet, there is leakage, according to Unicom, they supposidly sorted it out and they added it  is the way the phone line was originaly set up  ::) and added, some calls coss over ::) ::)I am still waiting for an itemised bill fom BT and will then double check with the one from Unicom, after all, I use the phone for 4 people all the time and odd other calls so can easiy check. I find it difficult to get 2 stories the same as BT say something different each time as well, they said when our internet is on, the phone calls I make go through it?????? I am keeping with Unicom but not too happy, calls supposidly cheaper but I have yet to get a bill with a good comparison, pluss phone calls on Unicom and BT were for the same amout, that I felt was strange!!!

If I didn't live in the middle of nowhere I'd go with any cheaper Broadband provider. here BT are the only ones providing any customer service and we're locked in a contract...Mobile Broadband sounds very expensive, a friend calculated usage per month.
I'd have a look here, they tend to give good comparisons, maybe in a previous edition about broadband:

Martin's Money Tips <MartinsMoneyTips@moneysavingexpert.com>

but, Sandy, as long as you are with BT you can easily switch the hub off when you are making a phonecall. A bit of fuzz but better than paying double! :&>

If you've tried talking to the companies concerned and they're not sorting out the problem and offering a refund, I'd try talking to ofcom as they are the the regulators for communications companies - they should be able to advise you on what to do.

As far as I know the BT homehub phone will route all your calls using their own voip service. (as its cheaper)

You may need to stop using that BT homehub phone and just plug a normal phone into your filter, that phone will then use the unicom service.

Barry g'day NO SHOUTIN AT GEORGE but What a wonderful thing Virgin Media is They came and brought a box into my house and I went to the phone shop and bought a phone one with 10 memory numbers.Like should I wish to talk to David pick up the handset and press 1 and it rings his number. Should some one want to talk to me and I 'm not here a voice says This is a plastic facsimile talk to me and I'll tell George and he will ring you back.I later purchased a TV package The chap came round and plugged in the box and I now have a selection of extra channels.I thought I would like to go on the net rang 151 and later in the week a chap called plugged a splitter in the line and a modem in the computer set it up had a cup of tea never need hide nor hair since Just power it all up and it works as far as my very limited knowledge allows it to.My Brother in law at Toft has nothing but bother with his. BT are there twice a month sorting it.As he  says he would use AOL but you still have to pay BT £11 a month to use their lines and its the lines thats at fault not the electronics part.He goes ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ;D :farmer:

Love the photo, not a "believer" in mystical stuff but love it, my favorate films are Lord of the Rings!! and I named one of my Yellow Labrador pups Gandolf!! and all the rest are from Lord of the rings, just one pup called Aslam!!!
Now, back on track...just been talking to Unicom Broadband, much more expensive and he was doing a "contract" while speaking so I said "hold on, I want to think about it all first!" why would I want to increase my bills? I may just stay with BT but how much time it takes to trawl for good deals? I also keep getting offered TV package and I hardy watch TV so useless to me

Itz mee agen Sandy. As I understand it Wrongly no doubt If you haven't a cable service you have to use BT lines and that is where the trouble lies Nothing wrong with BT in the city its rural where the wires have fallen down and a underground cable joined on and left in the hedge bottoms it all over like it round here.Go AOL blamed by many as the best but not if you live in Toft its not nor is BT''s own.and it cost £33 a quarter to use their crap lines and service ??? ??? :farmer:
Title: Re: Fumeing!!!!!advice needed before I blow my top!! NOW SORTED!!!
Post by: sandy on March 11, 2010, 03:13:03 pm
Now I have an online bill for BT, I can see the calls I have been charged for are BEFORE, I changed over, now why did knowone check that? I had just paid a bill when I swapped but of course that was only for calls up to that date Doh!!!! So, I may still change  broadband but not sure, I am paying just ove £19.00 a month including VAT...OK service but if/when you do have a problem there seems to be communication problems..hence this post! If someone could have checked they would have clearly noticed the calls were before the transfer date and I had not an on line account, not sure why but hey, thats another thing I should have done and also, why did they tell me so many stories??????? Phewwwwwwwwwww!

19 just for broadband or including the phone.  We have a package which including a FT phone and line and broadband (doesnt this use the same line, I am not very technical) we pay 60 euros per month.

This is the snag Sandy You can have Virgin but you also have to pay £33 a quarter to BT and in the country its almost sure to be BT lines. If I talk to a mobile its quite expensive so I don't the service charge Cable hire Phone talk to any 01 02 no; day or night Low level TV and broadband is323.74p Jan and Feb 2010 Telephone usage £1.86 Jan and £2.17 in Feb both excesses talking to David's mobile.
