Title: Hello from Derbyshire
Post by: Paula W on July 15, 2015, 10:46:14 am
Hi,
Just joined the forum although I have been looking at this website for quite a few months now.
We have recently moved into a run down farm in Derbyshire, near Ilkeston, with about 24 acres. We are newbies, and are farm sharing with a friend. His specialism is calf rearing, and we have 33 calves on here at present, so it feels as if we have jumped in the deep end, but all good so far.
Last week we got a Nanny got with 2 kids from a local, and they are settling in. I am hoping to wean the kids soon so that I can begin milking. Lots and lots to learn!

The house is very run down, but habitable. Lots to do and enjoying it so far!

Paula

Are the calves bucket reared? I did that when I was a student many years ago. Loved it.

HI Paula
Welcome from W.Yorks. sounds like you're in for an exciting adventure. I have goats, love them.
If the kids are old enough you could fasten them separate overnight and milk her in the morning, letting the kids run with her during the day.

Welcome from mid Wales. All the best with everything and am glad you're enjoying it. I have loads of calves to rear at the end of this year too. Are they Frisian? :)
