Title: Welsh Balwen Sheep
Post by: Lena Levy on July 11, 2015, 06:47:27 pm
Looking to buy ewes and lambs to start new flock, live in the Mintlaw area, does anyone know of a breeder of these sheep, also known as badger face sheep

Badger face and Balwens are not the same. Balwens have a pure white blaze that looks a bit like a zwartble, badger faces have a grey and white pattern that looks more like some colours of Shetlands.
Unfortunately we no longer breed Balwens as we prefer our Hebrideans

Can't help with your search, but just so look for the right animal, Balwens are Balwens- black all over with a white blaze - a bit like a mini Zwartble. Welsh Mountain Badger Face are a different breed entirely and have one of two distinct fleece markings. Torddu are mainly white with a black underbelly and black eye stripes, and Torwen have the reverse, with finer eye stripes.

Balwens + good fences go together.  Without good fences = goodbye Balwens.

That is true.... we had to fence off a style to prevent our precious flock from roaming through the neighbours' fields...

Still love them!
