Title: Ryelands shearling ewes perfect starter sheep?
Post by: Corajoan on June 28, 2015, 07:30:34 am
We brought 4 ryeland ewes as we had read they were perfect small holder sheep and a ram.. We also brought some Shetlands. I have totally fallen for the Shetlands. I am thinking practically the Ryelands are bigger so will keep 2 but would like to seel 2. They are fully registered and we only want what we paid which is £150 each. ????

How long have you owned them?  All breeds have their pluses and minuses.  We have mostly Southdowns (very docile and never escaped) and 20 Badger Face Welsh Mountain (great characters but like to eat the hedge and generally behave like goats).  The Southdowns' meat is far better, they are more prolific and they eat much less than the BF's but we like 'em both and I can't see us ever selling off one lot over the other.
