Title: Jacob ewe with a bald patch
Post by: Slimjim on June 16, 2015, 10:30:15 pm
One of my Jacob ewes has developed a very slowly enlarging irregular bald patch up to approx 8cm across at the side of the base of her tail stump. The exposed skin is smooth clean and dry. It appeared soon after shearing about a week ago and now appears to be extending down one side of the tail stump. It started as a small silver grey flaky ( as if covered in cigarette ash) area before that disappeared leaving the area bald.
I have sprayed it with Terramycin and then iodine, but it is still getting larger.
Any ideas as to what it can be please? Many thanks.

I'm afraid there have been no replies to this post, so I am taking the liberty of bumping up to the top again to avoid it getting lost among more interesting stuff.

It's nothing I'm familiar with, but a photo says a thousand words, so if you can post one or two of the patch someone may have experience of such a thing.

Have you stood and watched the sheep's behaviour, to see if she's repeatedly scratching that bit against a fence or post? Or maybe the birds are helping themselves to bits of wool for their nests (I'm not joking - seen that here).

could it be ringworm or another fungal skin infection?
