Title: Getting ready for my first geese!
Post by: Creagan on May 21, 2015, 10:39:19 am
So, I have half a dozen Embdens on order, due to arrive early July, aged two months.
I don't really know what a two month old goose looks like. Are they hardy enough to live out with just a small field shelter?
I have some good grazing, there are sheep on it at the moment and I will aim to have nice short grass ready for the geese arriving. I have a small burn running through the field and my plan is to use a couple of sleepers as a dam to make a pool so that they can swim.

Any advice much appreciated...

Hi Creagan,

That sounds like a great wee setup!

I'd have thought at this time of year, two month old geese will be off-heat no problem.  Just make sure they're protected from predators and they should be fine .

BTW can please forward details of where you obtained them.

Many thanks

One of our geese is sitting a clutch of eggs, we think its three but hard to tell in such a big nest and she is very protective and attentive, only spending a few minutes at a time to paddle and wash in the stream and eat grain and grass.  if she sees me going to peek she rushes back to the nest!  only a week or so to wait !! :excited:
