Star had her piglets last night....at last!
4 lovely piglets feeding well and snuggled up with their Mum....There were 5 but one didn't make it.
After the big litters here over Christmas it seems a little strange only seeing 4! (I had 9 and 12 in the last two litters).
I suspect it's because Star is so young. I bought her 'in-pig', and when her registration papers came through I realised she was only very young (dob 8/3/09!). I would prefer them to be at least 11 months old before breeding.

Sorry Julie, in my self pity mode, I haven't even congratulated you. They look really cute - well done.
We still have one female of 6 months old so when the time is right - we will get back up, dust ourselves down and start again. Before we got the pigs, I just thought they were smelly, noisy but tasted nice, but now you can see all the characters develop, naughty ones, quiet ones, the adventurer, the one that learns to lock you in the sty.......as happened to Steve recently ;D. Good luck with your brood and keep the pictures coming

Oooh piglets adorable.
Alfiepork, although this is a horrible time now for you, it will get better, sadly losses are part of farming, although we all strive to keep losses to a minimum in the best run of holdings sometimes things go wrong. I applaud the fact that you are going to put the younger gilt into season when she is ready. Will be watching your postings and waiting to hear that you have had a large, successful, litter.
