Title: Private kill poultry
Post by: RPF on February 26, 2015, 10:33:46 am
Hi,
I'm going to bring on a load of La Bresse, Sussex x Indian Game, Muscovies and Mullards. I live in South Oxfordshire and was wondering if anyone knows of an abattoir in the Oxon/Berks area that does private kill poultry as I don't fancy processing a hundred plus birds at this stage.

Do Sheep Drove still do it? Can't see it on their website.

Am I right in saying that it costs £1.50-£2.50 a bird?

Robin

There's not many on here in your area, I think. I've looked round here (Kent) and can't find anywhere that'll process poultry but if they do it for £2.50 a bird, that sounds like amazing value - it takes me so long to do each one, I'd jump at it.

There was thread last week about this up in Scotland Robin.

You'll probably have more options down there but the guy I spoke to up here charges £3-4 per chicken to pluck and dress them and they need to be delivered to him already killed.

Why not do them yourself, a few at a time. That would cost nothing!

Thank you everyone for your replies. I do have the kit to process my own poultry ie an old Burco and shed but I'm looking at selling outside of family and friends. It would make sense to utilise an abattoir for the time being, and to be cost effective, bigger batches are required. When I get a moment, I'll phone around and keep you posted with my findings.

not trying to teach you to suck eggs, but contact local game dealers... at this time of year they have less on so may be reasonable
