Title: Beet Pulp Pellets can be dangerous for dogs

Care should be taken when storing any fodder product to keep it disease free, but also to prevent ingestion by animals it is not intended for. For instance beet pulp (used to fed sheep in winter) can be extremely dangerous to dogs when eaten dry. The beet pellets swell in the stomach and can be potentially deadly to dogs causing blood flow to be restricted internally and in particular to and from the heart. Dogs that have eaten sheep pellets become rapidly dehydrated and require urgent veterinary attention to rehydrate them and assist the dog to expel the beet nuts. If your dog is suspected of eating beet pellets they can deteriorate quickly and it is important to seek veterinary help as soon as possible.
