Title: Longhorns and Hay Feeders
Post by: ScotsGirl on February 06, 2015, 08:33:23 am
i have no experience of cattle but there has been an issue in the village with someone not feeding their steers until a few calls to Animal Health were made. I'm still worried about one or two which seem to hang away from the others but I just wondered whether their horns will stop them getting in to eat their haylage?

Shouldn't be too bad a moment as only 18 months old so horn only a little wider than their heads. They seem to be hanging round the feed area a lot but not eating as much as I'd expect.

For horned cattle, there are tombstone feeders that don't have a top bar.

The dominant cattle will always feed first if there's not room for them all but so ong as there's plenty feed, there will be enough left for the others once the boss cattle are finished.
