Title: Straw
Post by: bigchicken on January 05, 2010, 10:58:09 pm
Anyone know of someone in Fife who has half a dozen small bales of straw for sale as cheep as possible please its just for bedding. Heard about a place selling small bales of hay at £6 a bale, day light robbery Dick Turpin is dead, but they are here instead.!  I know a man who sells his hay at £1-75 a bale and it is great feeding he always runs out wonder why. £3-50 is kind of normal I would say for round here. Must be small bales as I have nothing to handle the big bales.

I have been on the lookout for Straw too (Falkirk area) but not found any other suppliers yet.

Me too, my chickens are badly in need - if I can get their gate open tomorrow - need salt but there is none!

Small baled straw is nearly as much as hay round here.  £2.50 a bale some are charging  for straw.  I tend to get a big bale of straw for £20, and it lasts my goats and small pony, and chickens a while. I struggle a bit, but once inside, I can just about manage it.  I think its better value than the little ones.

I buy big round bales of straw off the field every September, around 15 bales delivered at £5 per bale which I think is a good deal. he takes my muck heap away every year for free so I never have to worry what to do with that. :)

I have just paid £2-50 a bale for straw today and £3 for hay and think this is a fair price. The straw I could have slept in and the hay smelled just like summer!

your very lucky the cheapest we can get is £5 for hay. it maybe a rip off but that what we have to pay. but at the moment there is none on the island and they are not sure when the next lot will come.

;)prices will be dependent on the farming around here we have alot of arable farmers so straw is cheap 40p a bale delivered for barley straw and we stacked 500 bales in the yard and have another 200 waiting for us but if we had to pay your prices we would have to cut back. hay prices are still good at £2.50 for meadow hay.
