Title: Warm Feet
Post by: nutterly_uts on December 11, 2014, 05:13:06 pm
I am already really feeling the cold in my wellys and yesterday wearing a pair with normal socks I had damp feet. Still not sure if the wellys leak or I had some weird form of sweaty but freezing cold feet!

I'm wondering if I need to change from wellys to something like muck boots? Or invest in some welly liners? or only wear thermals..

Any ideas/tips welcome :)

I hate muck boots (if you mean the neoprene ones) -horrible sweaty things :) I stick lambswool insoles in everything and mostly wear decent rigger boots in the winter.

Cheap wellies are useless. Invest in a pair of Dunlop Purofort. Expensive but will keep you warm and will last ten times as long as a cheap pair.

Ariat wellies have a special sole that stop my feet getting too cold

Was the neoprene I meant - will scratch them off! Will have a look at the fleece innersoles.
I dont really want to spend £ on wellys if I can get away with it because I have fat legs and I dont want to have to send stuff back

I just bought some Grubs boots, Fenline, which has a higher waterline than the frostline.  Hardened upper for cows feet and hardened underneath.  Very comfy, nice temperature.

I have fat calves so use snow boots as they have an extra bit to extend with.  Get mine from Mountain express / ware house place. Keep feet warm. :)

I have learned to wear 2 pairs of socks .... the inner being a proper inner walking sock which wick moisture away .... cos yes my freezing feet are often due to damp feet from sweating.

I disagree that cheap wellies are useless .... have had mine years and expensive ones can be punctured just as easily.   I tried to try some  the Dunlop purofort as they did seem good .... but the smallest size I could find was a 7 (which is the size I normally wear) but they were huge.

My neighbour told me that he makes insoles for his wellies out of carpet underlay stuff. Says that he has tried all sorts and this is the 'best'.

I was trying on some Dunlop purofort wellies and found that they were huge and seemed very wide (I have slim feet). The assistant spotted me and told me to try the children's sizes in them. Perfection!!!!! She said that lots of ladies wore the childrens. They came with insoles and I'm really pleased with them.   ;D

I bought a cheaper version of the muckboot for about 23/24 ££s cheaper and just as good as the muckboot. They're called Fladen. You could buy some good wellies like acifort, so comfortable and only a little over £20 also thermal socks would be good as well, plus some odour fighting insoles for the nasty sweaty smell.

cheap wellies with well ridged soles, fleece welly liners plus walking socks.  Living with a mountaineer taught me 'layering'  :(;  and being an Aberdonian taught me economy  :innocent:

I buy Mole Valley Farmer cheap wellies (youth's size3) and put a newspaper insole in and wear Tesco thermal socks. It's the newspaper insole that keeps you warm. A bit uncomfortable at first but after a few minutes sort of moulds itself to your feet.

i love muckboots.. but yes check the soles.. they seem to come with different types of grip depends on which model you get .. I've got these ones
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MUCK-BOOT-USA-Original-Chore-2K-Moss-Green-Wellington-Boots-Warm-Work-Wellies-/181234706967?pt=UK_Men_s_Shoes&var=&hash=item2a326e2a17 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MUCK-BOOT-USA-Original-Chore-2K-Moss-Green-Wellington-Boots-Warm-Work-Wellies-/181234706967?pt=UK_Men_s_Shoes&var=&hash=item2a326e2a17)
they last me about a year which is good considering I wear them virtually all day everyday.. even most of the summer though I felt too hot in them for a few days.. lol. that was the summer them... . I wore the soles of the last pair very nearly through!

Bama Sokkets (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bama-Sokkets/dp/B00JKPIICI).  Just the best ever for toastie warm dry feet..  I wear them on top of my usual thin wicking socks and a wool pair - layers are always good.  If your wellies are usually a snug fit then you may have to experiment with just a thin pair of socks with them, or maybe even a wider/larger pair of wellies, but I wear my Bamas in my normal wellies.

I am another Purfort fan.  They also do a Ladies fit one - which as I have fat calves are too narrow for me.  They have good grip (of course I'm going to fall over now I've said that ::)), are light as a feather and last for ever, even when used around cattle.  (And of course mine will now spring a leak - but I've had them for years, so they owe me nothing.)

The thick soled winter puroforts are so warm, but just dont fit my feet.

Dunlop actiforts with a lambswool insole and old hiking socks fit like slippers, seem near indestructable and cost less than £20....and they are great at gripping on most surfaces........

Depends on how long you spend time in ya boots - although I dont like cold feet - I could not wear anything thats impervious to water, not becuase I dont want wet getting in - its just that after 12+ hours in a boot my feet are like trenchfoot scenario cos of the sweat.

I wear loose fitting riggers all the time - gives that extra day or two with the same pair of socks, just got to remember to get all the hay and straw out ya boot the next morning.

Yes, their feeds and animal stuff are dear, but their acrigort wellies are cheap!

nutterly - yes, those ones, but I have to admit to wearing the newer (yellow midsole) non safety ones most of the time as they are so much lighter, and warm with an innersole and thick socks....

I heard from someone, who wears them all the time, that muck boot quality has gone down, so they don't last as long as they used to do, I suppose its the materials they use. I found that when buying some shoes from hotters, that the leather felt plasticy
