Title: Changing the roof shape.
Post by: SmallWelshBarn on December 09, 2014, 06:47:11 pm
Evening all,
I have a small garage/workshop its a relatively new building. I am thinking about changing the roof from a pitch to a mansard on the back side of the building as it backs on to a forest and is not visible. I am not intending to raise the roof etc.
Would I need planning permission for this change ? I have tried to attach a picture of the current building.

You would need permission. but if your sure no one will see it just do it and after 4 years nothing can be done. if anything happens before then you'll have to apply for retrospective planning.

I did think about the 4 year rule ;-) Its very hard for councils to turn down retrospective planning for a small change. It would cost them too much to defend against, as its my understanding they don't have the budget to fight ;-)
