Hi everyone,
I have been an occasional 'lurker' on these forums for a while- years actually. I have usually been able to find out what I needed to know by reading others posts but have now joined so I can ask my own questions. With good results already!! Thanks.
Anyway we moved here when the land I rented for my horses beside my old house became unavailable. We ( well me really) wanted a house with our own land. We found our place which seemed great but immediately started costing a fortune- house needed re wired, all the fences needed replaced, drains had to be put in ( to prevent the house from flooding- yes even though we are on top of a hill) etc etc. old houses are lovely but the problems have been never ending. For the past year we've had no water!! we do have amazing views though.
Despite all this I have happily ploughed on regardless and my livestock have multiplied. Started with 2 horses , a few chickens and 3 rescue dogs 7 years ago and now have a flock of almost 50 Hebridean sheep and 7 shetland cattle, as well as 2 young children ( and a busy almost full time job) So we are pretty busy. I seem to do a lot of my 'farm work' in the dark with a head torch but I enjoy it and I sleep very well.
Sorry for such a long winded introduction!

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I think I already know a few of you 'in real life'
Yes it is me fleece wife. Can you see our wee turbine from there?

Shy girl my cattle are actually 6 Shetlands and 1 Simmental fresian cross that I bought in this year to multi suckle on my older cow. But that was too complicated to say in my intro. I have a younger cow as well, really called a calved heifer I think as she is only 2 and a half. Also a bull and 3 steers.
I have been keeping cattle for 6 years now and , as with everything about smallholding, it has been a steep learning curve!
