Title: shetland markings

I'm finally getting around to registering my shetland lambs and need a bit of help from the experts on this one.

What would you call this face marking on an otherwise grey katmoget sheep.

The only thing that would come to my mind would be grey katmoget blettet. Has she got white socks too? It seems to be an expression of the spotting gene. What's the parents/colour/markings?

......and yuglet for the eye patches?    The mad list of Shetland colours must come from the very long winter nights they have  :roflanim:

Her face is the only thing not straight katmoget, no other white patches.

Mum is fawn katmoget, dad is moorit, twin sister is grey katmoget.

The space on the form isn't big enough for too long a list. :roflanim:

So both dam and sire must have a copy of the spotting gene. My completely black tup must have one copy of it too, as one of my Gotland cross ewes produced a lamb with white spots on her head (but nowhere else). Mum has spots on head too.

Aren't they fun?

I emailed the photo to the registrations secretary and she's suggested grey katmaoget mirkface.

But isn't mirkface - white with black spots? Yours is black/grey with white spots!

I love their individual markings as it makes it so easy to tell them apart ;D .  We have a pair of twins this year with the white 'zorro' mark on them.  And some lovely variations on katmoget.  Must start looking for spots too :roflanim:

Easy to tell apart except for the moorit twins.  Ones slightly friendlier/bolder and the other who had top-up bottles slightly skinnier which doesn't help much until they're really close up. :D
