Title: Woodchip
Post by: graham-j on September 01, 2014, 07:32:14 pm
Hi I have had several loads of wood chip hard wood but there is a load or two of layandii delivered in to the corner of one of my fields for my chicken runs.Do you think the sheep will eat it,will it harm them if they do.There are no sheep in the field at the moment but I need to move them soon.

Thanks Graham.

it seems that leylandeii  is  bad for sheep ,but you are talking about chipped and dead in the corner of a grass field , so they should only be nibbling out of interest , they may like lying on the heap and may try it then  plus they might wee /poo on the heap compact it and it might start heating , so maybe a temporary fence ??

If your sheep are anything like mine they will have more fun just climbing all over it and jumping off it (and flattening it out nicely for you).  I would temp-fence it off if you can.

My cows loved to sleep on this lovely centrally heated heap!
