Title: Seeking an Abattoir in the North West / West Lancashire
Post by: viatro on November 24, 2009, 03:27:18 pm
Hello Everybody,

I am new to this web site and new to the pig game, so please be patient with me. We are located in Lydiate, which is about 12 miles north of Liverpool and 3 miles south of Ormskirk. We have 12 saddlebacks, 6 of which needs to go to slaughter about the 7th of December.

My question is, does anybody know of an Abattoir in the Merseyside / West Lancashire area that could take our pigs, slaughter them and provide a butchery service?

Kind regards and thanks,

Eddie

There is an abattoir in Chester and Birkenhead ,but thats on this side of the water. Let us no how you get on please.

Hi Everybody,

Many thanks for your advice, in the end I decided to go with Morphets at Cronton. They specialise in and only do pigs. I am a bit of a softy because I was concerned about how long the pig would be in the holding pen. As it turned out it was the pig went straight in and had a totally stress free dispatch. The butcher there is cutting the carcass for me into half joints and chops etc., The cost of all this is just £16.00. A good price as far as I am concerned. I have also heard good things about Taylors in Preston, but they are a bit further away from us and increase the travelling time for the pig. Many thanks to everybody and have a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Kind regards, Eddie

£16 is that killed and butchered?  We pay 30 euros just for killing out and another 40 per pig for butchering.  That is really cheap, and they used to call it Rip off Britain    huh!!!

could you put on the phone number /address please as this seems really good service, and at the end of the day its about how they treat the animal at the end{getting it at a reasonable price is a bonus!!]

That seem really good I pay £40 per pig for butchering that does include sausages but no bacon, it's extra.

We pay £25 for slaughter and £1.20kg for cutting and curing; sausages are extra. So much, much more expensive than you. However, will have to find someone else next year in Angus!
